Cleaning: Never use hot water, detergents, or washing machines. This will strip the waterproof oils from the fabric. Simply sponge down the exterior with cold water and a soft brush to remove dirt or mud.

Drying: Always hang to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or artificial heat sources (like heaters), which can dry out the oil prematurely.

Storage: Ensure the product is completely dry before folding or storing to prevent mold. Store in a cool, dry place or in a cotton pillow case.

Reproofing: If the fabric begins to look "dry" or water stops beading on the surface, apply OzWit Reproofer Spray to restore its weather-shielding properties.

What is an oilskin coat and how is it made?

An oilskin coat is a heavy-duty, waterproof garment made from high-quality cotton canvas that has been treated with a specialized blend of oils and waxes. This traditional process dates back to sailors in the 1800s, creating a fabric that is windproof, durable, and highly resistant to water while remaining more breathable than synthetic plastics.

How do I clean my oilskin jacket?

Never machine wash or dry clean an oilskin coat. This will strip the essential oils from the fabric. To clean, simply:

Brush off dried mud or dirt with a soft-bristled brush.
Sponge down the exterior with cold water only.
For stubborn stains, use a hose and hang the coat in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally (away from direct heat)

What is the difference between oilskin and waxed cotton?

While similar, oilskin is typically treated with a heavier oil-based finish, making it slightly more rugged and better for extreme wet weather. Waxed cotton often has a drier, more matte finish. Oilskin is the preferred choice for rangers, riders, and outdoor workers who need maximum durability.

How often should I reproof my oilskin coat?

Can I wear my oilskin coat in the summer?

Because oilskin is made from a natural cotton base, it is more breathable than rubber or PVC raincoats. While a heavy duster might be too warm for mid-summer, many people use lightweight oilskin vests or jackets for spring and summer storms to stay dry without overheating.

How do I remove mold or mildew from my coat?

If stored damp, oilskin can develop mildew. To fix this:

Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water.
Lightly spray the affected area and brush gently.

A must have Fold up Fire Pit

I purchased the medium Quokka fire pit combo after a fair bit of research online. I must say I was very impressed with the quality of the product. First test was a lamb roast using Dragon Breath Gidgee Coals. Man these Quokkas punch out some heat. The grill and rotisserie attachment are easy to use and with a little bit of height adjustment we had the lamb cooked perfectly in 2 1/2 hours. Tasted so good. I then cooked a pork chop for my son and he loved it and commented how tender it was. 8hrs later I went to pack up and was surprised to find some hot gidgee coals still in the Quokka. I cant wait to use it more at home and when we go camping. Highly recommend

Fantastic little gem.

I love campfire cooking and working with both cast and spun steel. This book is an excellent primer for those just starting out and reference for those with a nit of experience. It is well presented. Beautiful pictures. Wonderfully simple and delicious recipes to follow. I found myself enjoying the read. It was a real gem of a find. I was so impressed I have just ordered the camp kitchen and the damper books. Looking forward to getting them.

Wow!

I bought this for my partner for his birthday, and I think it's one of the best ideas I've had! My dog lost a toy under the lounge so I stretched to get it and ended up hurting something in my shoulder. Normally it'd be sore for 3 or 4 days, but I got this straight onto it and it was significantly better in about 10 minutes. It's easy to use on yourself too because it's small and light compared to some of the bigger ones out there.

Highly recommend, you will not regret it!
